Japanese Authoritys Crack down on internet users

3 weeks ago I received a letter from my Internet provider OCN about the excessive usage of bandwidth, which according to their calculation reaches a minimum of 30GB/24 hour. They further their accusation by implying that  my data transmission reached a questionable level and that I am  subjected to either suspension or cancellation of my Internet. After consulting the contract I had with them and a few IT specialist I decided to ignore the letter and just toss it into the bin with the rest of my junk mail. Even made a few jokes about it to a friend. Then I woke up Friday morning and I couldn't log on anymore, thinking it was my modem playing up again. I sat there trying to fix it, after a few hours I decided to just give up and call NTT.
After nearly 2 hours and 10 different numbers dialed I finally lost it and told them to go screw a goat (yes I actually said that in my perfect Japanese) and hanged up. I decided to call them again on Monday after I cool down a bit and use this time to just stay away from the Internet and read a book or something. By Saturday morning I was restless, the iPhone I was using was too small and I just couldn't stand the auto correct. Thankfully I had an IT friend who is willing to call them and get an explanation. But before that he decided to surf the web and even though I knew Japan recently step up their Internet laws I was just plain ignorant. What he found out was quite scary, people getting arrested for their uploads. Even students face heavy penalty and jail time because of their innocent uploads. I call it innocent because these kids meant no harm, just like me. Ok how many people know that keeping the torrent links are going to get them arrested for piracy? Call me an IT blond but I don't have the time nor the luxury to clean out my PC.....(Did I just try to cover up my stupidity with another lame excuse???....YES!!! there you got me! another of my blond moments...LOL)
Anyway thanks to my IT friend he convinced the provider that I was just another dummy who has no idea what I was doing and they let me off with a warning that I will be monitored for the next few weeks and if it ever happened again I will be facing heavy penalty and possible Jail time.
What did I do? I rush home and delete all my torrent folders and what not. I'm not going to jail because I download a few movies...(I rather kill someone and then go to jail)........let me say a "few OLD movies"....heheheheheh....I don't believe in free movies too but then the cinema don't replay the new movies after a year and my video rental shop is always 3 years behind and always with an empty casing.....
So I know a lot of my friends are also like me, they didn't realise that now Japan is monitoring the Internet usage more than ever. Let my experience be your warning and don't even dare say that you are "smarter" than me....it was a silly mistake that I did that nearly got me arrested, charged then deported. They were lenient because 1:  I am a foreigner (female...LOL) and the fact that my IT friend did a good job of convincing them that I am harmless........but you might not get that lucky twice so delete! delete! delete!
