Zinal ski grounds

If there's one thing Switzerland is well known for, it's the ski resorts. A popular destination and sport for the rich. Valais host some of the most popular and expensive ski resorts, with chalets snaking their way up these beautiful mountains mostly covered in snow for half the year. The two most popular ski resorts are Crans Montana and Verbier. These two resorts according to the locals are divided according to who normally frequent them. In Verbier it's usually the British and Swedish and in Montana it's more the Russians and now the Arabians as well.
For me I prefer to hang where the locals go to. Less English speaking foreigners who just love to talk at the top of their lungs ( just don't get why they do that) and you get to interact more with the locals. My favourite ski resort/ground is Grimentz or Zinal.
Anyway this post is about Zinal, a beautiful ski/ground that I've just discovered last weekend. So Zinal is more a ski ground. No chalets sprawling in every direction. Just the little town at the bottom of the mountain. To get there it's a long drive from Geneva. I would say its almost 2 and half hours by car. Once you get to this scenic little town, park your car. By the way there are plenty of free parking so rest assured. And then take the cable car up to the ski grounds. From the first stop you can take chair lifts to go up further.
This place is a paradise for families. There are less people here and the slopes are for all levels. The dare-devil dad who'd like nothing better than to feel adrenaline rushing through his veins and the little baby who just started to ski. It's just wonderful!
Because I'm pregnant ( this line never gets old) I went walking instead. I had snow rackets with me and the goal was to go to one of the restaurants up in the ski grounds. I took the cable car then from there on instead of hoping into one of the chair lifts I put on my snow rackets and slowly ascend. On my way up I met another pregnant lady coming down (when you're pregnant you only meet pregnant ladies), she warned me that due to the altitude I could encounter breathing difficulty. With that in mind I thread on slowly till I reach the restaurant. The view from up there was humbling. As we approach the alp restaurant we can hear the echoes of the capoeira club as they chant and perform. My husband was invited by the president of that club to come up and watch their performance. My husband use to do capoeira while he was travelling through brazil. Anyway we ended up sharing their lunch, which was spaghetti bolognese.
The best part of the day was watching families especially little kids learning to ski. Some of them were already displaying tremendous skills on the slope.
