China beating Japan for the #2 spot.

Congratulations are definitely in order for the Chinese after officially kicking out Japan and settling in the #2 spot. Its arguably high time the Chinese move another step higher in the ranking, they rightly deserve it. Still a higher ranking doesn't necessarily mean a better quality of life, an average Japanese is still much richer than an average Chinese. However this is definitely a huge psychological blow to the Japanese. This should serve as a warning to change its old- fashioned xenophobic isolationist way of thinking.
Hidenori Sakanaka, former head of Tokyo immigration bureau, proposed what he termed the "Big option and small option". The big option is for Japan to be more open to immigrants to help boosts its economy and decreasing old population. The small option is for Japan to stay closed from the world and accept its decline and work with its small population and smaller economy. Which will prove less distressing for the Japanese since most of them are uncomfortable with foreigners.
If Japan wants to regain their spot they have to start making a lot of changes especially social changes. One of the important changes that had to be done is their immigration laws. There are just too many loop holes and the fact that they easily hand out Visas to people who contribute less to their economy. Their immigration laws are designed to protect the Japanese ( in the 16th century). Those laws are no longer working to their advantage anymore.
Once again this should be a wake up call for Japan. (Ganbarre!!!!)
