Softbank Shibuya |
Last week a friend decided to get a prepaid phone from softbank. Thinking that its cheaper and the processing requires less time and documents. Because he possessed a phone already he doesn't have to pay for the set just get a SIM card and a prepaid phone card.
I decided to join them in Shibuya after sitting around at home with nothing to do. From experience I personally hate going to the softbank in Shibuya. They are rude, obnoxious and racist. Always having a very low opinion of foreigners regardless of race, language or religion. I do understand that they in the past have billing issues with foreigners, but whose fault is that? First they sell themselves as the "for foreigners" phone company, second they don't always have an English speaking sales person and third, Its a phone for Gods sake! all the payment plans and everything is complicated enough and without translations its worse. Eventually resulting in the famous "hai!" to every single they say by a non-Japanese speaking foreigner. I for one knows what its like, my first year here I got the worst crappy deal ever not only that I was sold one of the most expensive phone set at that time.
So I arrived an hour after my friends got to shibuyas softbank branch and 3 hours after that we were still sitting around waiting for the phone to be connected. How hard is that? First of all its a prepaid phone, I got one a few months back and it took me more than an hour to process mine. And the attitude of the sales people one would think they are prison guards instead. Sure you have bad experiences but stop this generalization! Not all foreigners are out to rip off softbank. Instead they should come up with a plan or a marketing strategy that suits foreigners. Remember most of these people are self sponsored students, teachers and spouses. They don't have a typical average Japanese income or just stop being this mean robot behind the sales desk.
4 hours later and my friend decided he had enough. That's when they start scurrying around and brought out the branch manager. Another disappointment! She came out with her "perfect English" and a " I'm all that attitude". Just drop the act people! and provide a much friendlier service. What happened to " Okyakusama wa Kamisama desu" or is that reserved for Japanese only? In the end my friend was offered a free SIM card which hardly makes up for the 4 hour wait.
We do understand that Japan is very strict with phones to avoid phone crimes but still a simple yes or no would do in most cases.
