Leukerbad Thermal Bath

Sorry, the name is really not appealing huh! LEUKERBAD. The first few letters make me think of Leukemia, followed by BAD.....Anyway bear with me and try to think German! Oh and while we are on that topic, anyone else think that German is not the best language for ladies?? Not sexy at all. Have this busty blond coming up to you and start speaking in German then yeah! Fantasies>>>Squash! lol. I can say the same for french. Spanish is more a ladies language an angry senorita rattling off in Spanish is a turn on!

Moving on....I'm not a huge fan of the Japanese onsen. Mainly because my body cant stand heat, rooms with poor ventilation and elevators. With that said, I fainted once or twice, had bladder problems and so forth after visiting onsens. Once I was at my friends house, I decided to take a hot bath because it was cold and snowing heavily. I went in the bath, the next thing I know I passed out. Luckily I regain consciousness and crawl out of the bath and grab a towel before my friends found me. Crazy huh!
The other day, My husband suggested we visit any thermal bath around the area. He suggested going up to the mountains to Leukerbad. I on the other hand cannot process a day spent in the thermal bath. Personally, I find these knee deep heated water boring. At this point I decided to just go along and if I cant take it I will just find a bar and just get high. The drive up from Sion was scenic, seeing the vineyards slowly waking up. I've never been beyond Sierre into the Swiss-German part of Valais. Come to think of it I was more excited about going into the Swiss-German territory than the thermal bath. Ive been here for almost 2 months now and I'm accustomed to the french sign boards and names. But suddenly every sign and town names are in German and I find it strange. The walk through the town of Leukerbad was excitingly different. Listening to the Swiss-German the locals speak is so foreign that I try repeating some of the words I manage to catch.  The features of the people living up in Leukerbad is typically German. And suddenly I feel like I'm in another country.

Finding Leukerbad thermal bath was easy, since it is situated right in the middle of the little town. As a matter of fact, the town was supposedly built around the thermal bath. And that Romans have been using these baths as early as the 14th century...according to wikipedia and the brochures ;)
Leukerbad thermal baths are normal indoor and outdoor swimming pools with warm to hot water. The outdoor pools are attractively setup to have the view of the mountains that surrounds Leukerbad. Most of the pools are 1meter deep  and the water is hot enough, allowing you to move around and enjoy the extent of the pools.
Inside the outdoor pools there are seats with Jacuzzi-like bubbles to soothe any muscle ache. And if that's not enough head over to the umbrella. The umbrella or Mushroom is a standing umbrella/mushroom-like object with water flowing from the top. There are more than 30 pools within this establishment, four of which are accessible to the public, for a small amount.
Three hours later I wasn't prepared to leave. The xtube Tyre slide got me. These slides are ideal for youngsters and adults alike. With thrilling 360 degrees turn totaling a length of 126 meters.
By 6:30pm I was exhausted and ready to head back down to Sion. Spending so much time in water can work up a huge appetite. If you are like me and prefer beer or coffee when you are starving head to the nearest pub and practice your German. Be careful not to spit into any body's beer, these girls are huge and heavy.
