Good Morning Lausanne

Waking up in Lausanne, listening to the sound cars speeding by, disgruntle employees greeting each other as they hold on tight to their umbrellas, the train whistling in the distance and all I can think of is I hate this place.

For most aspiring college graduates and expats this is their haven. Two thirds of people living in Lausanne work in either Geneva or some nearby town. Because real estate in Geneva is too damn expensive and scarce and people here just seem to drift towards Lausanne as the place to be. Unlike Tokyo if you can afford an apartment within or closer to the metropolitan you are likely to find something good. Not in Geneva, you might have the money but no apartment available to rent. 

The first time I arrive in Lausanne my heart sank. I'm just in a different stage in my life at the moment. I love modern cities, bright lights, sky scrappers and for the past four years Tokyo provided that. Then I got married >>>LOL. Yes international love is what it is. I love the extremes; well people say I'm kinda extreme, always Which could be true but in my defence mediocre bore me. 

I love the simple life of Solomon Islands, when I'm there I always prefer to go back to my fathers home village and live off the land and sea. Toss away my heels, ipod and iPhone. Spend the week planting something or fishing. Sunday when my folks leave for church I grab a good book that Ive read a thousand times and reread it again. 

Then I love places like Tokyo; the other extreme. Where I can just jump into any outfit that pleases my soul even if its cutting off my blood circulation. Kill my feet with whorish platforms and strut my way towards the subway and off I go to my friends place for another catch up over tequilas. The weekends its either I work or I get that much appreciated phone call from friends and off we go to boogie ;) 

There are some good things about Lausanne. Let me think of one...........sorry! yet to have my coffee, I will come up with one, later maybe. 

The international community here is booming. People from different ethnicity can be observed from the balcony as they go about their daily business. Even the Swiss television has been infiltrated, doing game shows, advertisements, sports review etc etc.
Anyway I have a feeling that these things will take time. In a year I might be one of those people who cant seem too leave Lausanne.
